Reaching For The Stars

As North Winneshiek 6th grade students begin setting personal goals for this school year, the school is committed to support and recognize those students who have achieved their goals. Following are the areas students should focus on in setting their goals and the expectation for meeting them. Each month we will schedule a special activity to recognize those students who have met the criteria for “Reaching for the Stars.”

Service: Every month each sixth grade student will be required to complete a service project inside and outside the school. These service projects might include helping other students during the school day, helping with school grounds or upkeep, raising money for a cause either in their community, country or in the world, volunteering in some service organization within the community, helping a neighbor in some form, or doing some community clean-up project. Required to meet the goal: One service project a month in and outside of school.

Team: Each student should work together to help make the middle school a special place. This means that they become involved in school related activities throughout the school year. This team spirit will be very valuable in making this a successful school year. Required to meet the goal: Once activity per month. (Includes band, student council, sports, study groups, etc.)

Attendance: Attendance will be kept in the office as usual. To qualify for this area, students need to maintain a good attendance record and arrive to class on time. Required to meet goal: 42 out of 45 days in attendance.

Responsibility: We will be looking for the sixth grade students to become more responsible in daily activities. This will include completing homework assignments to the best of their ability, handing in homework on time, coming to class prepared, and cleaning up after themselves and their fellow sixth grade team members. Required to meet goal: Avoid three strikes

Monthly Incentives: On the last Friday of every month the students who reach their goals will be recognized and awarded in some way.
